After California, I visited Barbara Boucher Owen from Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas. The purpose of this visit was to investigate collaborative work on Barbara's Computing Educators Oral History project - which we did. I stayed with Barbara and her husband Phil in Geogetown. Georgetown is located about 40 Km north of Austin. The weather was hot - in around 100 degrees F each day and not much cooler at night - but we had airconditioning. Barbara was a wonderful host and tour guide - I got a real feel for Texas from my stay with her.
On an early morning walk to a local lake we encountered these deer roaming free in Georgetown.

Barbara and Phil (and Q -tip) on a walk along the river just below their house. The poor cat ended up having to be carried back home in a state of exhaustion. Apparently this happens often. Texas lantana growing by the river at the bottom of Barbara's garden.

One evening we visited Nell Dale.

Another Texas longhorn - people are instructed to keep at least 10 feet from the fence.

Sign outside Duke's Smokehouse restaurant where we bought food "to go". Redneck has a similar meaning in Texas as it does in Australia.
Bumper sticker - this is the Austin slogan. Georgetown has a corresponding slogan of "Keep Georgetown normal".
