Espoo Archipelago - 30 Aug

On the first weekend I took a boat trip around the Espoo Archipelago. This operates as a series of ferries between different islands. I stopped off at couple of islands for a walk. The region of Espoo is immediately to the west of Helsinki. One of the many islands in the archipelago.

New York, USA - 22-25 August

My last stop in the USA was New York mainly to catch up with my brother-in-law Paul and his family. Lots of family photos in this posting.Midtown Manhattan with Central Park on the left. Wonderful views of Manhattan as the plane flew around to land at La Guardia Airport.

Georgetown, Texas - 17-22 August

After California, I visited Barbara Boucher Owen from Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas. The purpose of this visit was to investigate collaborative work on Barbara's Computing Educators Oral History project - which we did. I stayed with Barbara and her husband Phil in Geogetown. Georgetown is located about 40 Km north of Austin. The weather was hot - in around 100 degrees F each day and not much cooler at night - but we had airconditioning. Barbara was a wonderful host and tour guide - I got a real feel for Texas from my stay with her.

On an early morning walk to a local lake we encountered these deer roaming free in Georgetown.

Barbara and Phil (and Q -tip) on a walk along the river just below their house. The poor cat ended up having to be carried back home in a state of exhaustion. Apparently this happens often. Texas lantana growing by the river at the bottom of Barbara's garden.

One evening we visited Nell Dale.
